How quickly does time fly by.
2020 was, at best, one weird ass year. Somehow, it has continued to leak into 2021. There will be no fans inside T-Mobile Arena to start the season on Thursday, January 14th, as the Golden Knights host Anaheim.
Quite honestly, 2020 started its downward spiral when the Golden Knights fired it’s coach, Gerard Gallant only a couple of weeks into the new year.
To continue the weird trend, the Knights’ hired Pete DeBoer the former head man of the despised San Jose Sharks. But the boys persevered. In a COVID-shortened season, they took the Pacific Division with 39 wins and a third seed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
VGK succeeded in reaching its second Western Conference Final in franchise history. The path included a 4-1 series win over the Chicago Blackhawks and a tough seven game series victory over an up and coming Vancouver Canucks squad. The season came to rest, in five games against the Dallas Stars.
The Knights should return to the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. The NHL Pre-Season Power Rankings put Vegas in the third spot behind the defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Rays and Western Conference foe, Colorado. Some say, with the addition of defenseman Alex Pietrangelo from St. Louis, VGK is sporting its strongest lineup ever.
