In an election year where abortion will likely be a force at the ballot box, surely a purple state wouldn’t want to do anything rash?

Have you been to Arizona?

The Grand Canyon State may have stepped in it when its Supreme Court ruled to uphold one of the country’s strictest abortion bans, crafted in 1864.

Hear the March Madness Song for 2024.

The ban, recently affirmed by the state’s Republicans, outlaws all abortions, except those necessary to protect the mother’s life. Yes, if you’re a victim of incest or rape, and you’re in Phoenix, you will be forced to have that baby.

You read correctly – 1864. Arizona wasn’t even a state yet. Abraham Lincoln was alive. Slavery had yet to be abolished, and America was still stuck in the Civil War. No, not the Ken Burns’ documentary – the real one.

The archaic law, written in another century, if enforced, would send doctors to prision if they perform an abortion within statelines. Nah, that won’t have a chilling affect on women’s health care.

In a world of Mississippis, Arizona has become the Idaho of Alabamas. Backwards.

When “The Knack” wrote My Sharona in the late 70’s, they had no idea it would be parodied so many times; most famously by “Weird Al” Yankovic with his version, My Bologna. This time, though, the subject matter is quite more serious than luncheon meats.
