When the Houston Oilers moved to Nashville they became the Tennessee Titans and soon the Washington Redskins will become the Washington ???. Monday, July 13th, the club announced they would retire the Redskins name and logo.
The pressure on Washington’s owner, Dan Snyder has been persistent over the years. In a 2013 interview, he was quoted as saying, “We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER – you can use caps.” 2020, as we have discovered, has a way of changing things.
What activists couldn’t accomplish, corporations have. A long list of sponsors; Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo, has, finally, forced Synder’s hand. Is it time or is it a case of mind your own business.
